The Roman Catholic Church of Sts. Cyril & Methodius and St. Raphael in Manhattan, staffed by Franciscan friars, serves a national Croatian parish, conducting services exclusively in the Croatian language. Located at 502 West 41st Street, near the southwest corner of Tenth Avenue and the entrance to the Lincoln Tunnel, it was built in 1902 as St. Raphael's Church, for a different population: the poor Irish immigrants of the rough neighborhood known as "Hell's Kitchen". ==Building==
The church building and "dwelling house" (used as a rectory) was built between 1900 and 1902 as the Parish Church of St. Raphael to the designs of the New York architect George H. Streeton〔 for $90,000 (for the church) and $25,000 (for the dwelling house).〔 The twin-towered front is composed of Manhattan schist trimmed with limestone; the rest of the church is brick trimmed with stone.
